The Worship Page
Our worship experience is one of joyous celebration. We seek to celebrate
and discover how God is with us and how God gives our lives meaning
and direction. As individuals and as a community of faith we try to
discern how God invites us to live.
Worship is musically enhanced by our choir and occasional musical groups.
Communion is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of each month and the first
Wednesday of each month in addition to
special occasions or seasonal days including: Maundy Thursday, Easter, Christmas
Eve, and Worldwide Communion Sunday. Baptisms of infants, children and
adults are celebrated during the Sunday worship service and are arranged with
our Pastor. |

| We invite people of all ages who have been baptized to
participate in Communion. We believe the Lord's Supper
is the sacred meal of the family of God which feeds, nourishes, and
strengthens us and that Christ's presence in Holy Communion is a
spiritual mystery, engaging people of all ages on many levels.
Come celebrate Christ with us! (We respect the wishes of those
parents who may choose to have their children wait to receive
communion until they have completed confirmation.) |

| Mr. David Beck is our Director of Music Ministry. David is an
outstandingly talented leader with a passion for music. Currently, our
congregation enjoys the musical gifts of our senior choir,
which is open to people over the age of 14 and on the third Sunday of each
month, we have a praise and
worship music service which includes more contemporary praise music
accompanied by guitars,
piano and sometimes flute. There are
also opportunities for friends, members and guests to offer instrumental
or vocal solos and
special music. One possibility we are currently exploring
is the reestablishment of our bell choir. |

Baptism
with water and the Holy Spirit is the mark of our acceptance
into the care of Christ's church, the sign and seal of our
participation in God's forgiveness, and the beginning of our
new growth into full Christian faith and life. People may
be baptized either as children or adults. Baptisms normally
take place during the worship service.
When an infant or young child is baptized,
parent(s) and/or sponsor(s) promise to assume certain
responsibilities for nurture and Christian upbringing of the
baptized child. The congregation also makes promises to
help the family nurture the child in and to teach the child
about our Christian faith. It is important to us that these
promises are made with the utmost sincerity.
Covenantal Questions (Promises)
Do you desire to have your child baptized
into the faith and family of
Jesus Christ?
Parents We do.
Will you encourage this child to renounce the
powers of evil and to receive the freedom of new life in
Christ?
Parents We will, with the help
of God.
Will you teach this child that she(he) may be
led to profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
Parents We will, with the help
of God.
Do you promise, by the grace of God, to be
Christ's disciples, to follow in the way of our Savior, to
resist oppression and evil, to show love and justice, and to
witness to the work and word of Jesus Christ as best you are
able?
Parents We do, with the help of
God.
Do you promise, according to the grace given you,
to grow with this child in the Christian Faith, to help this
child to be a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ, by
celebrating Christ's presence, by furthering Christ's mission in
all the world, and by offering the nurture of the Christian
church so that he (she) may affirm her/(his) baptism?
Parents We do, with the help of
God.
Based on this understanding of the nature of
Baptism and the responsibilities of the parents (or those making
promises on behalf of the child), it is the expectation that at
least one parent be a member in good standing of United Church
of Christ, Greenawalds. In the event this is not the case,
baptisms are permitted if another relative is willing to make
the promises to raise the child in the faith as long as that
person has the potential (by consent of the Spiritual Council)
to make those promises on behalf of the child sincerely. In the
event that a relative other than the infant/young child’s
parents are requesting a baptism, the parents of the child must
consent to the baptism.
In the event that the baptism is for a
confirmation candidate or someone older, the individual is asked
to make the promises for themselves. Baptism is the means by
which a person joins the Church.
Please direct any questions to Pastor Jeff and
speak with him to schedule a pre-baptismal meeting and a date
for the baptism. Baptisms are usually scheduled one Sunday per
month. |
